"Cannot find server or DNS error"

I've installed Service packs 2 and 3 to an old laptop running XP and now I get "Cannot find server or DNS error" when I try to get on the internet.
It was OK when I downloaded SP2 and SP3.
Help!!

'Control Panel|Internet Options|Connections|Settings button' if you find any of the "Automatic Configuration" or "Proxy" checkboxes checked, try unchecking them and see if IE connects.
